Amy, I enjoyed reading your story. As an Afro-American woman who was about to marry a white man when I was 18 years old, those questions came into play for us; which was heart breaking. I am finishing up my story but I would like you to read mines when I am finished. Now of course, God created you as a human being and that is who you are first and foremost. Everyone will have their opinion about you but what is important is the opinion you have of yourself. And yes, we live in a prejudice world so everyone black, white, red, yellow, brown or what have you, will have his or her thoughts on the matter. Being multiracial is a gift because you can be the one to calm the storm. Look at our bi-racial ex President Barack Obama. His Mother was white and his Dad was a Black African.

Black people have their hang ups of color issues but their will be a time you can go into an Afro-American environment and contribute something. Being around all white folks, you can help them to see that there is good in all people and so forth. You are here for a reason. I can imagine it is hard finding a racial slot to fill when applying for jobs; especially government jobs. Their are very few slots that have multi-racial or bi-racial. They want you to choose whether or not you are black or white. If you want to know the history of other bi-racial individual, research and watch old classic movies. I would suggest, if you haven’t seen the movie “Imitation of Life” watch that movie. It is about a girl who looks white because her mother is black and her dad is said to be Almost White but it will give you some insight on the history behind some of the issues you are facing. I can give you this comfort, many people have come to recognize that being bi-racial or multi-racial is widely accepted; yet still you have those few who dispute it. Good luck but be proud to be who you are and their are individuals like Mariah Carey among others who you can google to shed light on how they deal with that issue. God Bless!
